Linux Virtual Servers

Irides' Linux Virtual Server Solutions provide many of the benefits of our fully managed server offering, at a lower cost, and with the additional benefit of separating server installation from the underlying hardware, making management easier and reducing downtime risk.

Irides' Virtual Servers are available as managed servers, which include backups, restores, monitoring and our hardware uptime guarantee, and as servers managed by the client. Virtual Servers are available with CentOS in Micro, Small, Medium and Large configurations, with the following specifications:

Micro: 512 MB RAM, 30 GB Disk
Small: 1 GB RAM, 50 GB Disk
Medium: 2 GB RAM, 100 GB Disk
Large: 4 GB RAM, 250 GB Disk

Server Management

Two levels of server management are available for our virtual servers.

For the Unmanaged service, Irides will monitor your server using ICMP and alert you when the server unreachable. The customers is responsible for all other aspects of the management of your server.

For a Managed virtual server Irides will provide ICMP and full SNMP monitoring, backups, restores and hardware uptime guarantees. Monitoring includes access to myIrides with up to 3 months of historical information covering server performance including CPU, memory and bandwidth usage, disk IO and hundreds of other data points. Our Managed service also includes active monitoring of your service with regular port scanning (looking for unexpectedly open or closed ports), http content monitoring and protection using enterprise level Cisco Intrusion Protection Systems (IPS). We will also provide you with basic support in setting up and managing both the OS and web releated tools such as apache and mySQL.

We also provide a Fully Managed service that includes design and configuration support for the server including security hardening, performance tuning patching and auditing. This service is available separately and is described here.

Upgrades and Additional Options

The following upgrades and options are available:

Provide your own VMWare based image to install. Irides will provide you with a standard CentOS set up with basic applications enabled (for example Apache). However if you already have an image ready to go, we will install that image within a Small, Medium or Large environment.
Change the size of your installation. You can change the size of your environment to another one of our standard sizes once a month with a corresponding change in the monthly rate.
Create a custom configuration. If you need a custom configuration (more RAM, more CPU) we can accomodate this.
Additional IP addresses. By default our virtual servers come with a single IP address. You can request additional IP addresses, prices start at $1 per IP address per month.
Additional bandwidth. We can support bandwidth requests up to 1GBps on an on-going basis or for specific time periods
